I don't know if you have the same problem as I do, but I think it is very difficult to find beautiful duvet covers nowadays. So far I had not ventured to buy any duvet cover for several reasons (hmm maybe the price is the biggest reason), and remained with only two: one for the Winter, offered by J.'s mother, and another for the Summer, offered by my mother. But after some years with the bedroom always looking the same and with the Spring arriving, I wanted to refresh this division of our little home.

I confess that I spent hours and hours in on-line research and I have been lost a few times on Etsy. I found some covers that pleased me greatly, but the price... I then decided it was time to take the dust off the sewing machine and make a new cover for our duvet.

I wanted a cover that would bring the Sun into the house, since our bedroom furniture is very dark and we only have a small window. Even though I love white sheets, I don't like the idea of the duvet cover being white as well. I want my house to be functional and pleasant, and a white cover would involve too much work in maintenance. So white was not an option.

I was inspired by modern designs in northern Europe, but with a pop of colour. I added grey (which connects to the furniture) and a strong yellow in a sharp shape design. All in 100% cotton fabric.

5 hours later, amid cuts, measurements and basting seams, I finished sewing and brought another life to our bedroom. I just love how the duvet cover turned out! :)

:: Não sei se têm o mesmo problema que eu, mas acho mesmo muito difícil encontrar capas de edredão bonitas. Até ao momento não me tinha aventurado a comprar nenhuma, por vários motivos (hmm se calhar o preço é o maior motivo), e permanecia apenas com duas: uma de inverno, oferecida pela mãe do J. e uma de verão oferecida pela minha mãe. Mas depois de alguns anos sempre com o quarto igual e com a chegada da Primavera, quis refrescar esta divisão da casinha.

Confesso que passei horas e horas em pesquisas online e me ter perdido umas quantas vezes no Etsy. Encontrei algumas capas que me agradaram imenso, mas o preço... Decidi então que estava na altura de tirar o pó da máquina de costura e fazer uma capa nova para o nosso edredão.

Queria uma capa que trouxesse o Sol para a casinha, uma vez que a nossa mobília do quarto é muito escura e só temos uma pequena janela. Apesar de adorar lençois brancos, já não gosto muito que a capa também o seja. Quero que a minha casa seja funcional e agradavél, e uma capa em branco iria dar muito trabalho de manutenção. Portanto, branco não era uma opção.

Inspirei-me em designs modernos do norte da Europa, mas adicionei um pop de cor. Juntei ao cinzento (que liga a mobília) um amarelo forte, com uns traços de torrado, num design de linhas retas. Tudo em tecido 100% algodão.

Umas 5 horas mais tarde, por entre cortes, medições, alinhavos e costuras, finalizei o trabalho e dei outra vida ao quarto. Adorei o resultado final :)
