Ler em Português

I finally got a piece of history and add the "O Livro de Pantagruel" (roughly translated as "The Book of Pantagruel") to our bookshelf. The choice wasn't easy. I've been quite undecided between buying a new edition (second-hand, since the new one has an outrageous price), or an old edition. I went to a book store near Batalha Square in Oporto and, as you can see, I've chosen an old edition.

My book is from 1955 and, as in all printed editions in that era, it is signed by the author, Bertha Rosa-Limpo. It is also signed by the previous owner and has some papers with notes about the recipes.

My dad has renewed the cover so the book lasts at least more 60 years :) Thanks daddy!

As for the book itself, I love it! Meco illustrations are fantastic. The author words are delicious and make me go back in time. I love the chapter where she tries to convince us that a refrigerator is essential for a kitchen! It has about 1000 pages filled with recipes from entrées to drinks.

Now I'll attack the most important: the recipes! :)

:: Finalmente adquiri um pedaço de história e juntei "O Livro de Pantagruel" à nossa estante. A escolha não foi fácil. Andei bastante indecisa entre comprar uma nova edição (em segunda mão, já que novo tem um preço escandaloso), ou uma edição antiga. Fui a um alfarrabista ali para os lados da Praça da Batalha e, como podem ver, escolhi uma edição antiga.

A edição do meu livro é de 1955 e, como em todas dessa época, vem assinada pela autora, Bertha Rosa-Limpo. Está ainda assinada pela anterior dona e traz papeis com notas sobre as receitas.

O meu pai já me fez o favor de renovar a capa, para vermos se o livro dura mais uns 60 anos :) Obrigada papai!

Quanto ao livro em si, adorei! As ilustrações de Meco são fantásticas. As palavras da autora são deliciosas e fazem-me recuar no tempo. Adorei o capítulo onde nos tenta convencer que um frigorífico é essencial para uma cozinha! São cerca de 1000 páginas repletas de receitas desde entradas a bebidas.

Agora vou atacar o mais importante: as receitas! :)
